Role Consequences
Role Consequences
When a character is assigned a role by the system, they have been entrusted with an important responsibility. Without these specific roles, the current plot for the setting will surely fail - which does not make for good entertainment. It is the duty of each and every character to see the storyline through to the end, as such it is imperative that characters follow the guidelines of their role.
Unfortunately, some will choose to alter their purpose or discuss sensitive information with others. In an attempt to preserve the purity of the plot, the system has been ingrained with consequences for those who do not follow their roles. Consequences will worsen over time, if certain guidelines are not met.
If an important action or goal for a role is not met within a certain time limit, the system will take matters into its own hands to guarantee the integrity of the story-line.
Players have the option to choose from the glitches below to apply to their character if they choose not to follow their roles. Once a character returns to following their role guideline or stops discussing sensitive information pertaining to the roles - the consequences will stop immediately.
Consequence Glitches
Leakage
Early stages of this glitch will have characters suffering from periodic nosebleeds. Thick, red blood will dribble from their nostrils and likely splatter onto clothing, objects, or other aspects of the environment.Later stages of this glitch will have nosebleeds happening more frequently. This has the potential for a constant nosebleed. Blood will begin to turn dark brown or black in this stage. The affected character will begin to feel light-headed and have difficulty concentrating. Eventually, if the role conditions continue to not be met, a character risks falling into shock - which may lead to death.
Sensory Overload
Early stages of this glitch are characterized by sensations steadily amplifying. This may affect one of the senses [taste, smell, vision, sound, and sensation]. Heightened perception may cause discomfort or confusion within characters.
Later stages of this glitch will begin to affect multiple senses. What originally caused discomfort steadily escalates to higher levels of pain. The sensitivity will make it hard for characters to focus or communicate with others. This overload will eventually lead to an impairment in rational thinking. Panic and desperation will begin to set in, and drive characters to escape the onslaught of stimulus one way or another.
Losers Weepers
Early stages of this glitch have a character begin to lose something of importance. What the character loses is up to the player. Examples include: the ability to speak, memory recall, corporeal presence, body parts, and emotion. Initially, anything lost is negligible and could almost be excused as one's imagination or a fluke.
Later stages of this glitch have their initial loss growing into something far more detrimental. Anything lost as a part of the glitch will be immediately restored once the character chooses to comply with their role.
Infernal
In the early stages, this consequence will leave the afflicted with first or second degree burns on their chest, abdomen, and neck. These injuries can occur at any time, with no direct exposure to heat. They will not begin to heal until the character's role is resumed.
Continued resistance to one's role will bring third degree burns, along every major artery's path. After a few hours of severe burn outbreak, fire will begin to erupt from underneath the skin, and cannot be extinguished until the individual complies with their role.
Stranded in the Sand
Initially, those suffering from this consequence will feel a perpetual sense of thirst and hunger. All typically exposed areas of skin will begin to itch, as if dry or sunburned. This sensation will not dissipate, no matter how much one scratches.
As time goes on, symptoms of starvation and dehydration set in more severely. No matter how much water or how much food is consumed, the afflicted will continue to waste away. It takes three days for this dehydration to become fatal. Resuming the assigned role will immediately enable normal eating and drinking, though the body will recuperate at the rate typical when recovering from severe deprivation.
